Reverse inscription
The original location of the courthouse was on the western side of North Main St. When Hwy. 301 was relocated, however, it ran directly through the courthouse grounds. It was ultimately decided to move the massive building across the highway. Work began in 1950 and the total cost of moving the building 300 feet was $25,000. At that time the building was also remodeled, giving it a more modern appearance.
