When in operation, this was S.C.’s only 4-H camp for African Americans, hundreds of whom visited here each summer from around the state. Campers rotated weekly by counties from June to August. They participated in farm and home demonstrations, recreational activities, and leadership and citizenship programs. Camp Harry E. Daniels closed in 1964 after the signing of the Civil Rights Act.
