Battle of Camden

S.C. Sec. Rd. 28-58 (Flat Rock Rd.), about 6 mi. N of Camden and 5.6 mi. N of the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 521 & U.S. Hwy. 1

Near here on August 16, 1780, an American army under General Gates was defeated by British forces commanded by Lord Cornwallis. Major General Baron deKalb was mortally wounded in this battle.
